Chapter 8 – The Food Pyramids

After careful testing and research, I’m afraid I have no confidence in the traditional “Food Pyramid” that’s been touted as the gold standard for diet over the past few decades. The Food Pyramid, if you’re not familiar with it, encourages using carbohydrates – grains, fruits and vegetables as the mainstay for your diet and urges limiting proteins and restricting fats to a bare minimum.

The very first sign that this is not the most healthy way to go, especially if you’re a type II diabetic, is that ever since the beginning of the Food Pyramid’s promotion as the road map to healthy eating, America has gotten fatter and fatter, year after year, until today, America is more obese as a nation than it’s ever been in history and suffering from all of the secondary ailments that are associated with it. And it’s not getting any better, it’s getting worse! The problem is so bad now that obesity in school children is at an all-time, epidemic high and a third of the population is significantly overweight!

Yet well-meaning dietitians continue to seek a convenient, if undeserving scapegoat, hoping to indict eating fat or eating in one category of restaurants as a single, “Big Culprit.” Let’s take a look at the reality, however.
