So often we hear that we should, “Eat right and exercise,” to get healthy and stay that way. When I hear this, all I can do is chuckle. As sound as that advice may be, defining exactly what it means is an incredibly monstrous task to tackle. Let’s look at “eating right:” What about cholesterol? (A gross misunderstanding, at best, as you read earlier in this book.) What about the food pyramid? (If you follow that mistaken concept, you’re almost guaranteed to become overweight, develop Osteoarthritis and degenerate into type II diabetes if you have any proclivity toward it at all.) What about avoiding meat? (Do this and you cheat yourself out of vitamin B12 and the valuable protein building blocks your body requires to heal from injuries and to rebuild itself on a daily basis.) What about including lots of whole grains and pasta in your diet? I personally believe that this is one of the greatest nutritional contributors to both the pain in all forms of arthritis and to
obesity
in both people and pets in America. So, “Eat right?” What does that mean? I hope that former sections of this book have given you some useful insight into some aspects of that subject. More will be given later. Now for exercise.
Do we walk for three miles a day?
Do we lift weights three times a week? Do we attend aerobics classes? Yoga? Pilates? What might, “Exercise,” mean?
